In 2006 the inaugural state final was held to encourage and support the involvement of 16-19 year olds in a new competition initiated by SA Country Shows.
Over the last 20 years there have been 161 Young Rural Ambassador Award state finalists, and 19 of these have gone on to compete as Rural Ambassador Award state finalists.
